FAST trains in Europe ended 2014 with a flourish. In December Eurostar, which connects London, Paris and Brussels, started selling tickets for a new, year-round service to the Mediterranean, starting this May. Poland introduced its first high-speed service, between Warsaw and Krakow; Serbia signed an agreement with China to build a fast line from Belgrade to Budapest; and Turkey inaugurated a line from Istanbul to Konya, having opened one between Istanbul and Ankara in July. High-speed rail is controversial, as those now trying to introduce it to America know to their cost. This week, as work began on California’s “bullet train” project, taxpayer groups condemned it as a monstrous waste of money. Indeed, high-speed trains usually depend on public subsidy, yet their tickets are often unaffordable for many potential users, so they may not fill enough seats to avoid losses. The counter-argument is that over distances of 300-800km, fast trains between big population centres are quicker and less polluting than most forms of transport. No one is keener on them than the European Commission. Supported by EU and national subsidies, Europe has added more than 6,000km of high-speed track—on which trains travel at least some of the time at 250kph (155mph) or more—to the 1,000km or so it had in 1990. Much more is under construction or planned (see chart). In 2015 a new line from Leipzig to Erfurt is due to open. A Milan-Brescia service may begin in 2016. By 2017 no fewer than four new French lines will come into service. The EU, which is itching to spend more on infrastructure, plans to finance a €4.5 billion ($5.3 billion) fast-rail link between Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.

        A can do a piece of work in 40 days it work for 15 days then with the
        help of B they completed the remaining work in 25 days .Find the time
        taken by B alone to complete the work..

        hiiiiiiiii ye question sayad galat he but mujhe pata karna tha ki iska solution kese nikalu ,,plz help :)

        • the fighter

          this sum is ok
          15/40=3/8 work done by a
          5/8 work doing by a n b toghter–15*8/5=24 days
          a()40–(a+b)24
          120
          3–5”5-3=2 efficency
          120/2=60 ye to ippb ke 3rd shift ka sum h

        • the fighter

          sorry wrong h question :) 40-15=25 days he bacha h

    • gl@dy singh

      A= P*(100+RT)/100

      SO a(100+5*2)=b(100+5*3)=c(100+5*4)
      a*110 = b*115 = c*120
      22a=23b=24c
      a/23*24=b/22*24=c/22*23= k let

      so a=552k
      b=528k
      c=506k

      now
      a+b+c= 7930
      1586k=7930
      k=5

      so a s principal= 5*552=2760

    Q. The simple interest accrued on an amount of rs 40,000 at the end of 3 years is Rs 12000. What would be C.I accrued on the same amount at the same rate in the same period?
    Answer: Rs 13240
    Please explain the sum in the shortest and easiest way….

    • !!Harsh Gangwar!!

      12000=40000*r*3/100
      R%=10
      Ci for 3 years
      R%=33.10
      Ci=40,000*33.10%=13240

    • Gohan The Warrior

      12000*100/3*4000=R
      R=10
      10+10+10*10/100=21
      21+10+21*10/100=33.1
      33.1%of40000=13240

    • intruder

      3yr—————–12000
      1yr—————–4000
      4000 is 10% of 40000
      so r=10%
      CI
      4000*3=12000
      400*3=1200
      40*1=40
      12000+1200+40=13240

      Sol. C, B and A is about the theme of integration with reference to affirmative action. “they will continue to suffer…” logically follows into “but the loss is not only theirs.” – There is no need to bring in institutions of higher education into all this. “this ideal” is also ambiguous. Even if we force “this ideal” to be “integration” there seems to no place for respect to the other sentences.

            what is the tenure of rbi gov and deputy gov

          • Prasanna ~ Inherited Will

            sry fr late reply..
            i started to read banking from bsc and later switched to “Banking and Economic Awareness” by rakesh kumar.. and now mostly i read from newspapers and jaiib books :)
            and as far as i know.. the fixed time period for governor and Deputy governor will be 3 years but can be extended upto 5 years..
            there were cases such as rangarajan held the deputy gov post for almost 8-9 years and held the post of governor for 5 years.. and in some other cases some other governors held the post as little as 3 months.. as they would get chance to work at IMF or world bank as India’s representative.. :) :)
            ( In the absence of governor either one of the deputy governors or the finance secretary will act as interim governor)

    Hello Guys Enjoy With Vocabs………..
    Today(09-01-2017) Hindu Editorial Vocabs……..
    ………………………The slowing economy……………………

    Extent=> हद
    Extent=>the point or limit to which something extends or reaches.
    Advance GDP estimates and gross value added (GVA) for the current fiscal year from the Central Statistics Office clearly reveal the extent of the slowdown.
    Solely=> पूरी तरह से
    Solely=>without anything or anyone else involved.
    And as the Chief Statistician emphasised, these projections were based solely on data from the first seven months through October and do not factor in the impact from the withdrawal of high-value banknotes and the consequent cash crunch.
    …………..

    Anticipate=> पुर्वानुमान करना
    Anticipate=> to do something before someone else.
    More worryingly, the seven-month numbers establish that two key engines of the economy, manufacturing and services, are losing momentum faster than was anticipated, and this could spell trouble for the coming quarters.
    Backdrop=>पृष्ठभूमि
    Backdrop=> background.
    Disruption=> विघ्न
    Disruption=> to interrupt the normal course of .
    Adverse=> प्रतिकूल
    Adverse=> bad or unfavorable : not good.
    This is especially so when seen in the backdrop of demonetisation and what the Reserve Bank of India referred to as the “short-run disruptions in economic activity in cash-intensive sectors such as retail trade, hotels & restaurants and transportation, and in the unorganised sector” and “aggregate demand compression associated with adverse wealth effects”.
    …………..

    Silver lining=>उम्मीद की किरण
    Silver lining=> something good that can be found in a bad situation.
    There is a silver lining in the CSO data, though.
    Manifest=> उजागर
    Manifest=>easily understood or recognized by the mind : obvious.
    Sowing=> बीजारोपण करना
    Sowing=> to plant seeds in an area of ground.
    The improvement in rainfall has manifested both in the CSO’s projection for the ‘agriculture, forestry and fishing’ sector, which is estimated to expand 4.1 per cent this fiscal compared with the previous period’s 1.2 per cent, and in rabi sowing data from the Ministry of Agriculture.
    ………….

    Tide over=> सहायता करना
    Tide over=>to support or enable to survive temporarily.
    If farmers countrywide can tide over the acute cash shortage resulting from demonetisation and ensure that the sowing translates to strong growth in output, we could see rural consumption provide some cushioning from the slowdown.
    Nonetheless=> फिर भी,बहरहाल
    Nonetheless=> in spite of what has just been said.
    Fillip=> प्रोत्साहन
    Fillip=> an added part or feature that makes something more interesting or exciting.
    Rekindle=> फिर रोशन करना
    Nonetheless, in the Union budget due next month, the Centre will have to work in a substantial fiscal fillip to help rekindle economic momentum.
    ……………………

    ……………………..Unclogging the cities……………………
    Unclog=> अनवरुद्ध करना
    Unclog=> to free from a difficulty or obstruction.
    Keep out=> अन्दर नहीं आने देना
    Keep out=> to stop or prevent (someone or something) from entering a place.
    Conquer=> to defeat (someone or something) through the use of force.
    The move to make New Delhi’s iconic Connaught Place a pedestrian zone from February, and keep out cars and other vehicles from its middle and inner circle roads, during a three-month trial programme is an inspiring attempt to reconquer public space.
    …………….

    Spectacularly=> आलीशान ढंग से, असाधारण रूप से
    Spectacularly=>something that is spectacular; especially : an elaborate film, television, or theatrical production.
    Urban design in India is the preserve of State governments and local bodies, which have failed spectacularly to provide a safe, comfortable and accessible experience for walkers.
    Prominent=> महत्वपूर्ण
    Prominent=> widely and popularly known : leading.
    Prominent examples are Times Square in New York and the route along the Seine in Paris, and the curbs on cars in central avenue in Madrid.
    ………………..

    Apprehension=> भय
    Apprehension=>fear of or uncertainty about what may be coming.
    Contrary to apprehensions that restrictions affect commercial activity, the experience around the world has been quite the opposite: better walking and public transport infrastructure and availability of food plazas attract more people, improving the local economy.
    Pavement=>फुटपाथ
    Pavement=>the hard surface of a road, driveway, etc.
    Keeping powered vehicles out of core areas, expanding pavements for pedestrians and facilitating the use of bicycles is today a high-priority goal for mayors and urban governments the world over.
    ……………..

    Intermediate=>मध्यम
    Intermediate=>occurring in the middle of a process or series.
    Levy=> उगाही
    Levy=>to use legal authority to demand and collect (a fine, a tax, etc.).
    Stiff=> कठिन
    Stiff=>painful to move or use.
    Congestion=> भरा हुआ होना
    Congestion=> to concentrate in a small or narrow space
    In the intermediate phase, many cities find it rewarding to levy a stiff congestion charge on personal vehicles entering designated areas.
    …………….

    Detrimental=> हानिकारक
    Detrimental=>an undesirable or harmful person or thing.
    Measures to unclog cities are often posed, wrongly, as detrimental to the economy and efficiency.
    Aesthetic=> कलात्मक, सौंदर्य संबंधी
    Aesthetic=>of or relating to art or beauty.
    Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu has favoured people-centric ideas for Connaught Place, including aesthetic features such as water fountains and areas for relaxation.
