1. Google brings Two-wheeler mode to Maps in India, suggests fastest routes to bikers
Google Maps previously displayed direction for only three kinds of people, one who are driving on their own, one who are travelling via train or bus, and lastly for people walking to reach their destination. But now, with the new update rolling in, Google brings a new category to the list -- which is dedicated to the bikers, or in other words for the Two-wheeler owners. It is the Two-wheeler mode that Google Maps now gets. As the name suggests, this feature will show the fastest direction or route to the Two-wheeler riders to reach their entered destination.
2. Karnataka to get 50 new taluks next year
Karnataka will get at least 50 new taluks including Yelahanka in Bengaluru Urban District and Tikota in Vijayapura district on January 1, Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa said on Monday. With the creation of these administrative divisions, the total number of taluks in the state will rise to 227. Further, the state will also declare around 1,000 hamlets as revenue villages.
3. Facebook launches Messenger for kids under 13 in US
Social media giant Facebook has launched 'Messenger Kids' for children under the age of 13 in the United States. The standalone app is parent-controlled and lets them download the app, create a profile for their children, and approve friends with whom their children can talk. The standalone app will allow children to text and video call only their parent-approved friends.
4. Kerala launches India's largest floating solar power plant
Kerala Electricity Minister MM Mani on Monday inaugurated India's largest floating solar power plant at the Banasura Sagar dam in Wayanad district. The plant, worth approximately ?9.25 crore, floats on 6,000 square metres of water surface. With a capacity of 500 kilowatts, the plant comprises 1,938 solar panels and 17 inverters.
5. UPs Shamli district included in NCR.
Uttar Pradeshs Shamli district was today included in the national capital region, taking the total number of districts in the NCR to 23. Cities in the NCR get funds at "attractive" interest rates from the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) for infrastructure development. Besides Delhi, there are at present 22 districts -- 13 of Haryana, seven of Uttar Pradesh and two of Rajasthan -- in the NCR.
6. Syrian teen wins Children's Peace Prize for building school
A 16-year-old Syrian refugee, Mohamad Al Jounde, on Monday won the International Children's Peace Prize for building a school and providing education to hundreds of children who fled to Lebanon to escape the Syrian civil war. Al Jounde received the prize from Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai who had won the prize in 2013 for her activist work in education.
7. Smt. Anupriya Patel inaugurates 22nd AHWP conference
Smt. Anupriya Patel, Hon’ble MoS (Health & Family Welfare) recently inaugurated the 22nd conference of Asian Harmonization Working Party (AHWP) at New Delhi. The five day conference is being conducted by Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and National Drug Regulatory Authority (NDRA) of India in collaboration with Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The key objective of the event is to develop and recommend approaches for the convergence and harmonization of medical device regulations in Asia and beyond and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise amongst regulators and the industry.
8. 3rd DRC-NITI Aayog Dialogue
The 3rd edition of the Dialogue between the NITI Aayog and the Development Research Council of China, the DRC- NITI Aayog Dialogue was held in Beijing today. The meeting was co-chaired by Vice Chairman NITI Aayog, Dr. Rajiv Kumar, and Mr Li Wei, President (Minister), DRC.
The Indian delegation led by Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog included senior officials from NITI Aayog as well as Ministries of New & Renewable Energy and Food Processing. The Chinese delegation comprised of researchers and officials from DRC as well as the Chinese Ministries of Finance, Commerce, Foreign Affairs, and the National Development & Reform Commission.
