World’s first robot ski competition held
o World’s first robot ski competition was held in South Korea in which self-operational humanoid skiers with two legs participated wearing skis.
o The robots were reportedly equipped with sensors, batteries and deep learning algorithms that allowed them to move on their own.
o Eight teams from local universities and tech firms took part in the competition, reports said.

Pakistan to get first woman Hindu MP
o The Pakistan Peoples Party’s Krishna Kumari is poised to become the country’s first woman Hindu lawmaker next month, after the party nominated her for the upcoming Senate elections.
o Ms. Kumari said she faced a “slave-like situation” during her childhood in the remote village of Nagarparkar in Sindh Province.
o She worked on the farm of a feudal landlord who was abusive to his workers.

Raje announces farm loan waiver for farmers
o Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje announced a one-time loan waiver for small and marginal farmers up to ?50,000 each from their outstanding short-term debt in the 2018-19 State budget presented in the Assembly.
o While this move will cost ?8,000 crore to the State exchequer, no new taxes were imposed in the budget.
o The budget proposed a total outlay of ?1,07,865.40 crore on schemes and projects.

BoB to exit South Africa after controversies
o Bank of Baroda will reportedly exit the South African market amid allegations that politically connected Gupta family used its network for illicit transactions.
o Authorities alleged that the Gupta family used the bank to transfer large sums of illegal money and influence President Jacob Zuma.
o Bank of Baroda was the last lender in South Africa that offered services to Guptas’ companies.

World’s Tallest Hotel ‘Gevora’ Opens In Dubai
o The Gevora Hotel in Dubai, developed by the Al Attar Group has now become the “world’s tallest hotel”.
o It stands 356 metres and 53 centimetres tall. It is one metre taller than the previous holder of the title, the JW Marriott Marquis, in the same city.
o The title has been confirmed by Guinness Book of World Records.

12th International Conference On CSR Held
o The Institute Of Directors organised it’s 12th International Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
o In the conference, the Prestigious Golden Peacock Award 2017 were presented.
o The leadership award for philanthropy and social change was presented to Mr. Vineet Nayar, Founder Chairman, Sampark Foundation.

Gangolli won Chess Championship for the blind
o Defending champion Karnataka’s Kishan Gangolli won the 13th edition of the National ‘A’ Chess Championship for the blind in Mumbai.
o The championship was organised by All India Chess Federation for the Blind (AICFB).
o At the end of the 13th round, Asian Championship winner, Gangolli became the champion for the fifth consecutive time with 10.5 points.

India’s 1st Ever Highway Capacity Manual
o The Minister of Road Transport & Highways Mr Nitin Gadkari released India’s first ever Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) in Delhi.
o The manual is also known as Indo-HCM and it has been developed by CSIR.
o CSRI is developing it on the basis of an extensive, country-wide study of the traffic characteristics on different categories of roads like a single lane, two-lane, multi-lane urban roads etc.

Kambar to head Sahitya Akademi
o Kannada litterateur Chandrashekar Kambar has been elected as president of the Sahitya Akademi in the election held for the post.
o Hindi poet Madhav Koushik has been elected as vice-president.
o Prof. Kambar is the third Kannada writer to head the country’s premier literary institution, after Vinayak Krishna Gokak (1983) and U.R. Ananthamurthy (1993).

Parbati Ghose passes away
o Parbati Ghose, Odisha’s first female filmmaker, passed away following a prolonged illness here on Sunday night. She was 85.
o Born in Cuttack district in 1933, Parbati started as a child artiste in AIR and soon moved to the silver screen, also as a child artiste, playing Nila Madhava in Shri Jagannath.
o In ‘Bhai Bhai’, one of the biggest Odia hits, Parbati played the lead female protagonist.
